Manchester United are firmly in the race to sign Gabriel Magalhaes from Lille this summer, despite interest from Premier League rivals Everton.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has made it clear that Borussia Dortmund star Jadon Sancho remains his top priority, but has turned his attention to signing a new centre-back as well as the Norwegian club legend isn’t satisfied by his options at the moment.
Man United have made a €30m (£27m) offer, including bonuses, to try and prise Gabriel away from the Stade Pierre-Mauroy. The uncapped Brazilian has been touted to leave the Ligue 1 club after the premature end to the French top flight in April.
Solskjaer’s side have also been linked with Napoli ace Kalidou Koulibaly, Milan Skriniar, former Tottenham Hotspur-star-turned-free agent Jan Vertonghen and Villarreal’s Pau Torres as the boss tries to find a suitable partner for club captain Harry Maguire.
Gabriel has no shortage of suitors, as Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal reportedly lodged an offer to sign him earlier this month. However, a move has failed to materialise, which has paved the way for Ed Woodward to steal a march on their fierce rivals.
Wooodward had been monitoring the 22-year-old closely and the executive vice-chairman seems to have made his move.
Unsurprisingly, many United fans gushed over the “monster” on social media, with one supporter tweeting “Arsenal in the mud,” and another adding the Brazilian would be a “perfect” signing as he has made more tackles and interceptions per league game than Maguire this season (via WhoScored).
