The glory days of Sir Alex Ferguson at Manchester United may be long gone, but Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has started a new chapter at Old Trafford.

Man United finished third in the Premier League following the conclusion of the campaign, tied with Chelsea on 66 points, separated by a significant goal difference.

While much of the focus has been on the formidable front three, club captain Harry Maguire and David de Gea have copped criticism from Roy Keane for their performances since the restart.

Recent reports had suggested that Solskjaer has no intentions of dropping De Gea but it seems that this is not the case.

According to The Sun, the Red Devils are planning a 'shock' move for Leicester City's Kasper Schmeichel to replace the Spaniard between the sticks.

The Man United manager believes Dean Henderson, who has spent the past few years with Sheffield United, isn't ready to become the first-choice goalkeeper at the moment.

Solskjaer feels the 53-cap Denmark international could make a seamless transition to Old Trafford, rather than relying on Henderson whom he considers a rookie, despite the fact he has impressed at Bramall Lane.

Like father, like son, Schmeichel could follow in his father Peter's footsteps, who wrote his name into the club's history.

The 33-year-old has three years left to run on his deal at the King Power but would be a cheaper option than Atletico Madrid's Jan Oblak.

Henderson, who is currently valued at £18m via Transfermarkt, has made it clear he will not sign a new deal if he doesn't get what he feels he deserves.

Chelsea are willing to double his wages to tempt him away from the Theatre of Dreams and he could push for a move if he finds himself even further down the pecking order. Sergio Romero is the current reserve keeper, amid interest from Everton and Leeds United.

If Solskjaer isn't careful, he could find himself short of options sooner rather than later. Henderson does not want to play second fiddle to De Gea and it is unlikely he would want to become a backup for Schmeichel if he arrives at Old Trafford in the summer.
