Manchester United are linked with some very high profile players this summer, one name in particular being rising star Kai Havertz.
It’s clear Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wants to kick on next season with a marquee signing under his belt. This is evident in some of the names that have been swirling around the Old Trafford camp.
A move for Bundesliga star Havertz now looks likely, with Sky Sports Germany reporting that the club want to ‘build a new team’ around the midfielder and sources claim they have ‘good chances’ of signing him (via Sport Witness).
Who would you rather see sign for Manchester United?
The 20-year-old has made huge waves in this season, tallying an impressive 11 goals and five assists in the Bundesliga and an extra four goals across cup competitions (via Transfermarkt). For Man United, these are numbers they could seriously do with having in their midfield.
The Red Devils have seen seven league goals scored from the middle of the park this season, which is a decent amount, but in order to assert their dominance next season, they need to step it up a notch.
Scott McTominay and Bruno Fernandes have been the standout midfielders in the Premier League this season, creating ten goalscoring opportunities between them (via Transfermarkt). With the added threat of a clinical attacking midfielder like Havertz, Solskjaer could be looking at a very dangerous middle three.
It seems United are willing to splurge when it comes to bringing new talent to Old Trafford this summer, which is what they will have to do in order to acquire Havertz. It has been reported that Bayer Leverkusen would be looking for about €80million (£70.7m) plus €20m (£17.6m) in bonuses.
While this is mega money, if United have the funds there, the young German should be a no-brainer. His raw talent and ability to find the back of the net will transform the Reds’ midfield and have Premier League defences struggling to contain him.
Havertz’s creativity could also aid the likes of Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial and Mason Greenwood, providing them with more opportunities to find the back of the net.
However, given he would cost a pretty penny, Solskjaer may have to sell someone in order to help finance a deal for the German. That someone could be Paul Pogba, who has been linked with a move to Juventus recently (L’Equipe) whilst Real Madrid are also thought to have an interest.
There wouldn’t be room for Fernandes, Pogba and Havertz at Old Trafford and given the Portuguese only signed in January and has impressed, combined with the fact Pogba’s contract expires next summer, and it could mean the Frenchman makes way.
