Manchester United’s lengthy pursuit of Borussia Dortmund forward Jadon Sancho could be set to end with one final deadline day rejection from the German club, according to Sky Sports.
The Red Devils have been trying to agree a deal with Dortmund throughout the transfer window, but it has been reported that United missed the German club’s August 10th deadline to secure a move for the England international. That is after they failed to match the £108 million valuation placed on the 20-year-old.
United saw a £91.3 million offer for Sancho turned down by Dortmund last week, but it is now expected that the Red Devils could return with an improved offer and finally match the German side’s valuation for the Englishman before the window closes, according to Sky Sports reporter Gary Cotterill.
However, as per the same update, Dortmund are likely to reject that offer, having grown increasingly frustrated with the Red Devils throughout the window, and they are now in a position where they are wanting to keep hold of the 20-year-old for the campaign as there is simply no time to find a replacement.
Ole Gunnar Solskjær has been hoping to add Sancho’s creative and goal scoring ability to his squad, with the forward having been amongst the most dangerous forward in Europe last term netting 17 goals and providing 16 assists (via Sofascore). It now seems like they could have to shift their attentions to late moves for other targets.
This would simply compound all of United’s transfer failings this window with the Red Devils having messed around and missed out on the prospect of landing one of the most talented players in Europe. It would leave so many question marks around the way their business is conducted if they were to just turn around on deadline day and finally match Dortmund’s valuation.
Unitedhave had the entire window to agree to Dortmund’s demands, which have never shown any signs of altering, so to wait until the last minute seems like a poor strategy. Were United to have offered the same fee that could be rejected now earlier in the window, they would have secured Sancho’s arrival, so the whole saga has been messy from start to finish.
