# Manchester United: Wissam Ben Yedder targeted as Romelu Lukaku’s replacement

**Manchester United have made it a ‘goal’ to sign Sevilla striker Wissam Ben Yedder as a replacement for Romelu Lukaku, according to [Estadio Deportivo](https://www.estadiodeportivo.com/sevilla/2019/07/20/punto-caer-ficha-domino-ben/234876.html) via [Sport Witness.](https://sportwitness.co.uk/manchester-united-goal-replace-lukaku-frenchman-e40m-gets-deal-done/)**

It is thought that if Lukaku is sold by Manchester United the club will become more active in looking for a striker and [Ben Yedder](https://sportwitness.co.uk/manchester-united-goal-replace-lukaku-frenchman-e40m-gets-deal-done/) is the most likely target.

It is also reported by [Estadio Deportivio](https://www.estadiodeportivo.com/sevilla/2019/07/20/punto-caer-ficha-domino-ben/234876.html) ([via Sport Witness](https://sportwitness.co.uk/manchester-united-goal-replace-lukaku-frenchman-e40m-gets-deal-done/)) that the Frenchman has made it clear to Sevilla that he would like to move, however, will stop short of disrespecting Sevilla by trying to force a transfer.

The links with Ben Yedder make the most sense given the France international has a [relatively cheap release clause of £36m according to talkSPORT.](https://talksport.com/football/564113/wissam-ben-yedder-sevilla-manchester-united/)

Manchester United were linked with a bid for [Arsenal’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang,](https://www.fcinternews.it/esclusive/fcin-inter-lukaku-si-stringe-affare-da-78-mln-totali-united-su-aubameyang-313161) however, with Arsenal surely unlikely to sell cheaply to a top-six rival, perhaps a move for the man in question would be far more affordable.

Ben Yedder has enjoyed a good spell in La Liga since his move from French club[Toulouse](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11095/10519618/sevilla-sign-wissam-ben-yedder-from-toulouse-on-five-year-deal). The 28-year-old enjoyed a brilliant season last campaign,[scoring 30 goals](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/wissam-ben-yedder/leistungsdaten/spieler/146854/plus/0?saison=2018) and [providing 11 assists](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/wissam-ben-yedder/leistungsdaten/spieler/146854/plus/0?saison=2018) in all competitions.

With the [high prices](https://medium.com/football-applied/explaining-the-recent-surge-of-prices-in-the-football-transfer-market-and-what-this-means-cf5fa1398ccc) in the current transfer market and the [seemingly possible exit of Lukaku](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11667/11764896/romelu-lukaku-omission-start-of-manchester-united-exit-process), a move for Ben Yedder would be perfect for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer this summer.

If we are to go by [Manchester United’s 1-0 victory](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/46859254) over Tottenham Hotspur back in January, arguably the club’s biggest domestic victory under Solskjaer, the Norwegian will most likely go with a free-flowing and quick attacking trio in most games next season. Ben Yedder has [blistering pace](https://talksport.com/football/564113/wissam-ben-yedder-sevilla-manchester-united/) (also talked about within the talkSPORT report), and with Marcus Rashford alongside him and Jesse Lingard behind the duo, Solskjaer can turn to a quick attacking trio that proved [successful](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/46859254) at Wembley last season.

Lukaku is a brilliant finisher with over [100 goals in 252 Premier League games,](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/romelu-lukaku/leistungsdaten/spieler/96341/plus/0?saison=2018) however, last season, Manchester United legend [Gary Neville](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11667/11706777/sky-sports-pundit-gary-neville-questions-romelu-lukaku-fitness) voiced his doubts over the fitness of the Belgian. With that in mind, losing the [6 foot 3 and 93-kilogram Lukaku](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/78498/Show/Romelu-Lukaku) could make a noticeable difference for Solskjaer and his style of football next season.

With [Lukaku](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11667/11764896/romelu-lukaku-omission-start-of-manchester-united-exit-process) possibly on the way out, a move for Ben Yedder would be a cheaper and better option for the club next season.
