# Liverpool: Fans slam the latest link involving Sadio Mane

**Sadio Mane has been a fantastic purchase for Liverpool since he joined from Southampton four years ago.**

The Senegal international cost [£34m](https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/36642523) from the Saints in 2016, and he has turned into a world star at Anfield. Since making the switch, he has managed [77](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/sadio-mane/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/200512) goals in 161 games, of which 22 came in the Premier League last time out as he shared the Golden Boot with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and team-mate Mohamed Salah ([BBC Sport](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/48243725)).

Not only that, he was named African Player of the Year last year, and also finished [fourth](https://metro.co.uk/2019/12/02/full-ballon-dor-ranking-2019-lionel-messi-wins-award-sets-new-record-11257792/) on the Ballon d’Or list – he is one of the club’s most important players. However, France Football ([via The Daily Star](https://www.dailystar.co.uk/sport/football/sadio-mane-wants-liverpool-exit-21900257)) say that he is ready to leave the Reds after Jurgen Klopp publicly backed Virgil van Dijk for the European award instead of the 27-year-old, who earns [£100,000 a week](https://www.spotrac.com/epl/liverpool-f.c/payroll/) at Anfield.
