# Manchester United: James Rodriguez offered to Red Devils in cut-price deal

**Manchester United have been offered a cut-price deal for Real Madrid star James Rodriguez, according to [The Sun](https://www.thesun.co.uk/sport/football/11814174/man-utd-real-madrid-james-rodriguez-contract/).**

Rodriguez was once valued at £100m by Madrid, although the Spanish giants are now looking to cut their ties with the midfielder as his contract is set to expire next year.

Los Blancos signed the Colombian, who was the top scorer in the 2014 World Cup, from Monaco on a six-year-deal back in 2014 ([BBC](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/28418131)). He spent two years on loan at Bayern Munich before returning to his parent club last summer.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is well aware that his budget will likely be limited in the transfer market and is currently weighing up his options.

Although it is fair to say that Rodriguez has failed to hit the same heights he enjoyed with the [Colombia national team](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-8241683/James-Rodriguez-world-feet-2014-did-wrong.html) six years ago, he has shown flashes of his overall brilliance with Real Madrid this season.

While he has not started a game for [Zinedine Zidane’s side](https://www.thesun.co.uk/sport/football/11814174/man-utd-real-madrid-james-rodriguez-contract/) since October, he has scored one goal and created one assist in only seven appearances in La Liga this term, taking 1.3 shots and averaging two key passes per game via [WhoScored](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/71182/Show/James-Rodr%C3%ADguez).

Ever since he moved to the Santiago Bernabeu, the [dead ball specialist](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/71182/Show/James-Rodr%C3%ADguez) has won the Champions League twice, lifted the La Liga trophy and won the Bundesliga on two occasions so far ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/james-rodriguez/erfolge/spieler/88103)).

As things stand, Rodriguez is considered [surplus to requirements](https://www.thesun.co.uk/sport/football/11814174/man-utd-real-madrid-james-rodriguez-contract/) in the Spanish capital and could be on his way out the door when the transfer market opens. However, Madrid are eager to free up space on their wage bill, and Ed Woodward may baulk at [his high wages](https://www.thesun.co.uk/sport/football/11814174/man-utd-real-madrid-james-rodriguez-contract/), which are reportedly worth £250,000-a-week.

Although the Red Devils have admired [the Colombian](https://www.thesun.co.uk/sport/football/11814174/man-utd-real-madrid-james-rodriguez-contract/) for a long time, it is hard to imagine him moving to Old Trafford in the summer, given the current [financially constrained circumstances](https://www.ft.com/content/067a3eeb-e915-48af-8384-94fdc495cf59).
