# Liverpool: Reds now ‘like’ Marco Asensio

**[Liverpool](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/liverpool-fc-news/) now ‘like’ Real Madrid forward Marco Asensio ahead of the upcoming summer window, according to journalist [Jacque Talbot](https://twitter.com/jac_talbot).**

### The Lowdown: Contract offer rejected

The Spaniard is set to become a free agent with his contract due to [expire](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/real-madrid/vertragsende/verein/418) at the end of the season, after [rejecting](https://www.marca.com/futbol/real-madrid/2023/03/08/640863fc46163f672f8b4592.html) the latest new offer to extend his stay at the Bernabeu.

The Reds were [reportedly](https://www.liverpool.com/liverpool-fc-news/features/liverpool-transfer-marco-asensio-klopp-24779392.amp) offered the chance to bring the 27-year-old to the [Premier League](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/premier-league-news/) in August 2022, and despite a deal failing to materialise at the time, it sounds like [Jurgen Klopp](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/tag/jurgen-klopp/) has his eye on him again.

### The Latest: Liverpool ‘like’ Asensio

Taking to [Twitter](https://twitter.com/jac_talbot/status/1633455881697337344?s=46&t=cVYwodEwJ5KqH22eIl4UYA), Talbot revealed that Liverpool are admirers of Asensio, with assistant manager Pep Lijnders especially keen. He wrote:

“Liverpool also like Asensio (I know, I know!) He is a free agent in the summer and would represent a cheap option and something of a replacement for the departing Roberto Firmino. Told Pep Lijnders is a big fan of Spaniard.”

### The Verdict: Potential advantage?

Asensio [shares](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/marco-asensio/profil/spieler/296622) the same agent as Fabinho, Diogo Jota [and](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/fc-liverpool/berateruebersicht/verein/31) Darwin Nunez, so this could potentially gift Liverpool with an advantage should they attempt to secure his services this summer.

The winger has clocked up [84](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/marco-asensio/leistungsdatenverein/spieler/296622) goal contributions in 266 appearances for Madrid and currently ranks in the [93rd](https://fbref.com/en/players/45af8a54/Marco-Asensio) percentile for most shots per game by players in his position.

The Palma native also provides fantastic versatility having played in [six](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/marco-asensio/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/296622) different roles throughout his career, which will be an extremely attractive attribute to Klopp.

Asensio has been [dubbed](https://t.m.china.org.cn/convert/c_wTtVCUJX.html) a ‘dangerous’ forward by his manager Carlo Ancelotti, making him the perfect candidate to inject some end product into the attacking midfield ranks at Anfield.
