### The Lowdown: Contract talks on hold

The [Premier League](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/premier-league-news/) playmaker has now entered the final [18 months](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/fc-chelsea/vertragsende/verein/631/vertragsendeJahr/2024) of his contract at Stamford Bridge and is facing an uncertain future after [rejecting](https://talksport.com/football/1257987/mason-mount-rejects-200000-chelsea-contract-with-representatives-wanting-same-pay-as-teammate-raheem-sterling/) an offer to extend his stay.

The Athletic’s [David Ornstein](https://twitter.com/David_Ornstein) recently [confirmed](https://twitter.com/David_Ornstein/status/1627576403624357888) that the Blues have put contract talks with the 24-year-old on hold and will decide at the end of the season whether to cash in or agree a new deal.

### The Latest: Liverpool ‘keen’ on Mount

Taking to [Twitter](https://twitter.com/graemebailey/status/1627668705273421825?s=46&t=N0azfgzigVcZc49RBXDhTQ), Bailey revealed that Liverpool hold a strong admiration for Mount and are weighing up whether to make a summer approach. He wrote:

### The Verdict: Henderson heir?

Jordan Henderson isn’t getting any younger (32), and with Mount having been [dubbed](https://twitter.com/ftalentscout/status/1386023819337510914?s=46&t=xJItgA6pN3wH0Hcr1iqeiw) a ‘leader’ by talent scout [Jacek Kulig,](https://twitter.com/FTalentScout) he could be the perfect heir when the captain hangs up his boots.

The [Nike-sponsored](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/mason-mount/profil/spieler/346483) star has posted [70](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/mason-mount/leistungsdatenverein/spieler/346483) goal contributions in 191 senior outings for Chelsea and is a versatile option, having operated in [seven](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/mason-mount/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/346483) various positions throughout his career.

The Portsmouth-born talent also ranks in the [92nd](https://fbref.com/en/players/9674002f/Mason-Mount) percentile for most progressive passes per game, displaying his desire to play on the front foot and create dangerous phases for his team.

Mount actually [shares](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/mason-mount/profil/spieler/346483) the same agent as [Fabio Carvalho](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/fc-liverpool/berateruebersicht/verein/31) so this could potentially give Liverpool an advantage should they try to get a deal over the line in the summer.
