# Liverpool: Transfer insider drops Mason Mount update

**[Liverpool](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/liverpool-fc-news/) target [Mason Mount](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/tag/mason-mount/) wants to be ‘sure’ he’ll have success with Chelsea before committing to new deal, according to transfer insider Dean Jones.**

### The Lowdown: Liverpool targeting midfielder

Jurgen Klopp will likely need to reshape his Liverpool squad in the summer, with several players coming to the end of their contracts, including central midfielders [Naby Keita](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/naby-keita/profil/spieler/302215) and [Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/alex-oxlade-chamberlain/profil/spieler/143424).

The Reds have been [linked](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/liverpool-fc-news/liverpool-reds-jude-bellingham-premier-league-real-madrid-transfer-news-updates/) with a blockbuster move for Jude Bellingham, while Ruben Neves has also been [touted](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/liverpool-fc-news/liverpool-premier-league-ruben-neves-wolves-transfer-news-updates/) as an option, but Mount remains a viable alternative amid his [stalling](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/chelsea-fc-news/mason-mount-contract-talks-news-rumours/) contract talks with Chelsea.

### The Latest: Jones’ update

In an interview with [GiveMeSport](https://www.givemesport.com/liverpool-now-in-for-80k-a-week-england-star-at-anfield/), Jones gave an update on his discussions with his current club, while he also confirmed that there is [Premier League](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/premier-league-news/) interest in the midfielder.

The transfer insider said: *“From what I understand, he wants to be sure before he puts pen to paper on this, that he’s actually going to be successful at Chelsea going forward.*

*“Because otherwise, he’s going to keep his options open, as he knows that there are two big Premier League clubs in for him and I think one of them is Liverpool.”*

### The Verdict: Get it done?

[Hailed](https://twitter.com/MrGeorgeBenson/status/1513959009597882369?s=20) as ‘sensational’ by members of the media, the Englishman has a lot to offer going forward, [weighing in](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/mason-mount/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/346483) with 11 goals and ten assists in 32 Premier League outings last season, with the latter figure [ranking](https://www.premierleague.com/stats/top/players/goal_assist?se=489) him joint-third in the top flight.

That said, the 24-year-old is clearly not at the level of Bellingham, recording [fewer](https://fbref.com/en/players/9674002f/Mason-Mount) non-penalty goals, as well as a lower amount of tackles and successful take-ons than the more well-rounded Borussia Dortmund [ace](https://fbref.com/en/players/57d88cf9/Jude-Bellingham) over the course of the past year.

With Mount’s contract set to [expire](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/mason-mount/profil/spieler/346483) at the end of next season, he may come far cheaper than the 19-year-old, who is said to be valued at around [£130m](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-11458687/Jude-Bellingham-spark-130m-bidding-war-summer-Bukayo-Saka-set-cash-in.html), but Bellingham is clearly the better player, and should be targeted as the first-choice option.
