# Rangers: Michael Bridge critical of January signings

**Amad Diallo and Aaron Ramsey ‘have not stepped up’ following their January arrivals at [Rangers](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/rangers-fc-news/), Sky Sports journalist Michael Bridge has told [GiveMeSport](https://www.givemesport.com/87998644-rangers-20-7m-duo-slammed-for-not-stepping-up-at-ibrox).**

### The lowdown

The Light Blues signed Diallo on loan with [three days of the transfer window remaining](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11788/12526731/amad-diallo-rangers-sign-manchester-united-winger-on-loan-until-end-of-season), while Ramsey arrived on [January’s deadline day](https://www.rangers.co.uk/Article/rangers-sign-wales-international-aaron-ramsey/7obEsUvYOR7Upwp2fdn6vO), also on a temporary deal.

When the Gers beat Livingston 1-0 on 26 January, [they were four points clear of Celtic](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/60038996) at the top of the [Premiership](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/scottish-premiership-news/), but fast forward three months and they find themselves six points behind their Glasgow arch-rivals.

Diallo [has only started](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/amad-diallo/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/536835/verein/124) three league matches and one cup game and hasn’t featured at all in the Europa League. His [solitary goal](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/amad-diallo/leistungsdaten/spieler/536835) came five minutes into his debut away at Ross County.

Ramsey has been slightly more involved, with [seven starts across all competitions](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/aaron-ramsey/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/50057/verein/124), and he scored in the Old Firm derby at Ibrox earlier this month. However, the Welshman has also struggled for fitness, missing out on [six matchday squads](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/aaron-ramsey/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/50057/verein/124) since he arrived in Glasgow.

Bridge feels that Diallo has been anonymous and that Ramsey has failed to find rhythm, saying that the duo have failed to meet Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s expectations.

The reporter told [GiveMeSport](https://www.givemesport.com/87998644-rangers-20-7m-duo-slammed-for-not-stepping-up-at-ibrox): “\[Look at\] Rangers’ signings in January. Diallo from Man United has been non-existent.

“Ramsey hasn’t really worked yet, even though he scored in the Old Firm, he’s been so stop-start. Ultimately, the players they bought in January have not stepped up.”

### The verdict

Ramsey has largely been unfortunate, but to a degree his injury problems were to be expected when you consider the [persistent troubles he had at Juventus](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/aaron-ramsey/verletzungen/spieler/50057).

You could argue that Diallo has been an even bigger disappointment. This is a hugely talented player with [46 goals and 29 assists to his name](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/amad-diallo/leistungsdaten/spieler/536835/plus/0?saison=ges) between youth and senior levels at the age of just 19.

Most worryingly, [questions have been raised about the Ivorian winger’s attitude](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/rangers-fc-news/amad-diallo-criticised-dundee-united-rangers/). Journalist Andrew Dickson called the [£16.2m-rated](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/amad-diallo/leistungsdaten/spieler/536835/plus/0?saison=ges) teenager’s attitude ‘really poor’ in February after he allegedly backed out of a challenge against Dundee United that ‘he was favourite to win’, while BBC Sportsound pundit Derek Ferguson accused him of looking ‘half-hearted’ that day.

The [£28,000-per-week](https://salarysport.com/football/player/amad-diallo/) gem may not be remembered all that fondly in Glasgow unless his fortunes drastically improve throughout the rest of his loan spell.
