# West Ham backed to appoint Michael Carrick to replace David Moyes as manager

**[West Ham United](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/west-ham-news/) should look at replacing manager [David Moyes](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/tag/david-moyes/) with Middlesbrough boss Michael Carrick, according to pundit Gabby Agbonlahor.**

### The Lowdown: Moyes’ future in doubt?

The Hammers are assessing their options to replace Moyes, given their disappointing [Premier League](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/premier-league-news/) season up to this point, and there have been a number of potential candidates linked with the role.

Recent [reports](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/west-ham-news/west-ham-premier-league-jose-mourinho-david-moyes-transfer-news-updates/) have indicated that AS Roma manager Jose Mourinho has been targeted by the West Ham hierarchy, while they have also been [linked](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/west-ham-news/david-moyes-maurizio-sarri-manager-news-rumours/) with a move for Lazio boss Maurizio Sarri, as well as [Carrick](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-11839777/West-Ham-make-SHOCK-swoop-Michael-Carrick-sack-former-United-boss-David-Moyes.html).

### The Latest: Agbonlahor reacts

Speaking to [Football Insider](https://www.footballinsider247.com/west-ham-tipped-to-appoint-michael-carrick-after-sources-behind-the-scenes-reveal/), Agbonlahor stated that the end of the season may be the right time for the Hammers to part ways with their current manager.

The pundit said: *“If they stay up, it might be for the best to move on from Moyes.*

*“If there’s a Michael Carrick out there and willing to take the job – then why not freshen it up? It’s a completely new direction.*

*“He’s done so well with Middlesbrough and there aren’t many people who had a playing career like him. He knows the club too.*

*“Maybe Moyes’ time as a manager has come to an end. He’s had a great career, but it could be time to stop.”*

### The Verdict: Right man for the job?

The 41-year-old has been hailed by members of the media for the ‘[incredible](https://twitter.com/AlexCTurk/status/1625975041564311553?s=20)‘ job he is doing at Middlesbrough, and it is clear to see why, given the turnaround that he has overseen since being appointed back in [October](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11095/12724697/michael-carrick-middlesbrough-appoint-former-man-utd-midfielder-as-head-coach).

In his 20 Championship games at the helm of the club, the Englishman, who favours a 4-2-3-1 formation, has won [15](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/michael-carrick/profil/trainer/65647), averaging 2.30 points-per match, with his side now up to [third](https://www.skysports.com/championship-table) in the second tier.

Given his history with the club as a player, making [153](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/michael-carrick/leistungsdatenverein/spieler/3878) appearances for the Hammers, it would be unsurprising if Carrick is tempted by a move to the London Stadium, and he is showing all the hallmarks of an exciting young player.
