# West Ham: Michael Keane on Irons’ transfer radar

**[West Ham United](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/west-ham-news/) are eyeing a January move to sign Everton centre-back Michael Keane, according to [The Sunday Mirror](https://www.mirror.co.uk/all-about/sunday-mirror).**

### The Lowdown: Three appearances

Labelled [‘one of the most likeable men in the sport’](https://www.goodisonnews.com/2022/04/11/henry-winter-everton-defender-michael-keane-one-of-the-most-likeable-men-in-football/) by The Times journalist Henry Winter, the defender has made 189 appearances for the Toffees since joining in 2017.

However, the 29-year-old has fallen out of favour at Goodison Park this season, lining out just [three times](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/michael-keane/leistungsdaten/spieler/118534) in all competitions.

He is [yet to make](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/michael-keane/leistungsdaten/spieler/118534) a [Premier League](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/premier-league-news/) start under Frank Lampard during the current campaign, and it looks as if the Irons are open to a potential move for him.

### The Latest: West Ham eyeing Keane

[West Ham Zone](https://www.westhamzone.com/transfers/west-ham-united-and-nottingham-forest-in-pursuit-of-everton-defender-michael-keane-loan-on-the-cards/) relayed an update from the print edition of [The Sunday Mirror](https://www.mirror.co.uk/all-about/sunday-mirror) (4 December, page 82) regarding Keane, who is set to go out on loan.

They claimed that the Hammers are eyeing a move for the defender alongside Nottingham Forest, Fulham and Leicester City.

### The Verdict: Needed?

David Moyes has [five](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/west-ham-united/kader/verein/379) senior centre-backs at the London Stadium, but Kurt Zouma has recently undergone [surgery](https://www.whufc.com/news/zouma-undergoes-knee-surgery) and Craig Dawson’s future remains [up in the air](https://www.westhamzone.com/transfers/craig-dawson-almost-certain-to-leave-west-ham-united-as-transfer-news-emerges/).

Therefore, a new centre-back on loan could be useful in the second half of the season, possibly someone like Keane.

He has plenty of Premier League [experience](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/michael-keane/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/118534/wettbewerb/GB1) and may well be open to a new challenge, so this could be one to watch over the coming weeks.
