[*The Sun*](https://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/sport/football/7183193/Jose-double-swoop-Mourinho-wants-Rio-Ferdinand-in-his-backroom-staff-and-will-bid-10million-for-Reece-Oxford.html)[states](https://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/sport/football/7183193/Jose-double-swoop-Mourinho-wants-Rio-Ferdinand-in-his-backroom-staff-and-will-bid-10million-for-Reece-Oxford.html) that Mourinho is keen for former defender Rio Ferdinand to join his backroom staff at Old Trafford next season, as the Portuguese boss sees the superstar-turned-pundit as crucial to getting United’s trajectory back on track.

Despite winning the FA Cup this season for the first time in over a decade, the season will be seen as disappointing after United failed to clinch their spot in the Champions League for next season- and suffered an early exit from this season’s competition.

Ferdinand has been approached but is[yet to make a decision,](https://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/sport/football/7183193/Jose-double-swoop-Mourinho-wants-Rio-Ferdinand-in-his-backroom-staff-and-will-bid-10million-for-Reece-Oxford.html) though he’s excited for United’s venture under Mourinho after comments he made last week.

> “This winner is a wounded animal which makes him such a mouth-watering appointment.”

Our landlord believes Ferdinand would be a solid choice to oversee improvements on United’s defensive line, which has struggled this season.
