# Everton: Toffees eyeing Moussa Dembele on free transfer

**[Everton](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/everton-fc-news/) are reportedly eyeing up a potential move for Lyon striker Moussa Dembele on a free transfer.**

### The Lowdown: January interest

Everton were [reportedly](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/everton-fc-news/moussa-dembele-everton-transfer-rumours-lampard-approval/) linked with a move for Dembele in the January transfer window, but a deal never materialised in the end.

He is out of contract in the [summer](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/moussa-dembele/profil/spieler/229004), meaning that he can leave Lyon as a free agent at the end of the season.

### The Latest: Everton on the table

As per Spanish news outlet [Mundo Deportivo](https://www.mundodeportivo.com/futbol/atletico-madrid/20230308/1001959213/apuntan-surrealista-opcion-delantera-atletico-verano.html), the Goodison Park outfit is an option ‘on the table’ for Dembele, should he leave as a free agent.

However, they will face competition from both Atletico Madrid and Southampton for his signature.

### The Verdict: No-brainer

The Merseyside club have been goal-shy in the [Premier League](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/premier-league-news/), as they are the joint-lowest scorers in the division with [19](https://www.premierleague.com/tables) goals.

Hailed as a ‘[scoring machine](https://twitter.com/LatourBertrand/status/1348654511154454529)‘ by L’Equipe journalist Bertrand Latour, Dembele would come in and immediately fix that problem.

The 26-year-old has scored an impressive [140](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/moussa-dembele/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/229004) senior goals over the course of his club career so far, which includes experience in the Premier League with Fulham.

He has even been dubbed the ‘[new Didier Drogba](https://twitter.com/FTalentScout/status/1172196630923218945)‘ by football talent scout Jacek Kulig, a player that gave the Toffees nightmares when playing for Chelsea, as he scored eight goals and made four assists in 16 games in total against them ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/didier-drogba/bilanz/spieler/3924)).

Nonetheless, on a free transfer, the Blues could do little wrong by snapping him up.
