# Arsenal: Gunners courting Moussa Diaby ahead of summer

**[Arsenal](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/arsenal-fc-news/) are reportedly ‘hotly courting’ Bayer Leverkusen winger Moussa Diaby ahead of a potential move this summer.**

### The Lowdown: January interest

Arsenal held an [interest](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/arsenal-fc-news/arsenal-moussa-diaby-transfer-rumours-news/) in Diaby in the January transfer window, but a move proved too difficult to complete.

They ended up signing Leandro Trossard from Brighton and Hove Albion to add extra cover to their forward line, but may look for a level-raiser this summer, after being snubbed by Mykhaylo Mudryk when he joined London rivals Chelsea in a whopping [£88.5m](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11095/12783393/mykhailo-mudryk-chelsea-agree-85m-transfer-deal-for-arsenal-target-and-shakhtar-donetsk-winger) deal.

### The Latest: Diaby courted

As per German news outlet [Bild](https://www.bild.de/sport/fussball/bayer-leverkusen/bayer-leverkusen-die-folgen-der-krisen-saison-mega-umbruch-bei-leverkusen-82846530.bild.html), Diaby has been ‘hotly courted’ by the Gunners ahead of a possible move this summer.

However, they may face competition from Premier League rivals Newcastle United for his signature.

### The Verdict: Get it done

If [Mikel Arteta](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/tag/mikel-arteta/)‘s team want to continue to chase Premier League titles like they are doing this season, and want to make a statement in the UEFA Champions League, then Diaby is the kind of calibre of player that they should be signing this summer.

Hailed as possessing a ‘supernatural, divine gift’ for dribbling and having ‘explosiveness’ on the ball by the president of his first club [Morade Djeddi](https://theathletic.com/3172612/2022/03/10/moussa-diaby-bayer-leverkusen-bundesliga-europa-league/), Diaby ranks in the 97th percentile of all forwards in Europe’s top leagues for progressive carries per game, as well as in the 88th for successful take-ons ([FBRef](https://fbref.com/en/players/aeed5c06/Moussa-Diaby)).

The Frenchman also has a high end product, with [61](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/moussa-diaby/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/395516/plus/0?saison=&verein=&liga=&wettbewerb=L1&pos=&trainer_id=) goal contributions in his last three-and-a-half seasons in the Bundesliga.

Nonetheless, Diaby is still just 23 years of age, and so has such a high ceiling, so the North Londoners would do well to bring him to the Emirates Stadium this summer.
