Southampton reporter Alfie House of The Daily Echo has shared an update on the future of Saints manager Nathan Jones.

The former Luton Town boss surprised many people with what was an extraordinary rant in his post-match press conference at the weekend.
Following a dismal 3-0 defeat to Brentford on Saturday, a result which leaves Southampton still bottom of the Premier League table, Jones bizarrely leapt to his own defence amid calls from many supporters for him to go.
The Saints boss compared himself to Europe’s best coaches and even blamed members of the squad for him having to compromise on tactics and style of play.

Taking to social media on Monday, House claimed that internal ‘discussions’ have been held over Jones’ position and that Southampton are giving ‘serious consideration’ to the 49-year-old’s future.
The journalist explained: “As others report, there is serious consideration at Southampton over Nathan Jones’s role. This accelerated by comments Saturday costing him virtually all remaining external support.
“Told discussions have happened ahead of training today.”
The Verdict: Time to say goodbye?
Since taking charge of the club, Jones has managed to secure just one league win for Southampton against Everton and a surprising Carabao Cup victory over Manchester City.
Only Bournemouth have leaked more goals than the Saints in the current top-flight campaign, with the St Mary’s outfit having lost more games (14) than any other club in the division.
Southampton are now three points off Leeds in 17th but the Whites have a game in hand, and they have already commenced the search for a new manager following Jesse Marsch’s dismissal on Monday.
When taking into account their own Premier League safety, the Saints must surely think about doing the same, especially after Jones’ controversial comments.
