# Newcastle: Magpies plotting fresh Anthony Gordon bid

**[Newcastle United](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/newcastle-united-news/) are plotting a fresh attempt to sign Everton winger Anthony Gordon, according to a report from the [Chronicle Live](https://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/newcastle-united-transfers-state-play-24697738).**

### The lowdown: Winger search goes on

The Magpies have been extensively linked with numerous wide options this summer, falling short in their [efforts](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-11029251/Newcastle-dealt-fatal-blow-pursuit-Moussa-Diaby.html) to sign Bayer Leverkusen star Moussa Diaby, Rennes ace [Kamaldeen Sulemana](https://www.getfootballnewsfrance.com/2022/newcastle-united-considering-move-for-rennes-winger-kamaldeen-sulemana/) and Club Brugge winger [Noa Lang.](https://theathletic.com/3394548/2022/07/04/newcastle-eiktike-harrison-broja/)

Despite an opening day 2-0 victory over Nottingham Forest, Toon boss Eddie Howe is still looking to bolster the attacking options at his disposal in the North East and links to [Callum Hudson-Odoi](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/newcastle-united-news/southampton-transfer-news-hudson-odoi-chelsea/) and [James Maddison](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/newcastle-united-news/leicester-transfer-news-maddison-premier-league-2/) have emerged in recent days.

Having previously been indexed to Gordon earlier in the window before being issued with a [hands-off warning](https://www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/anthony-gordon-frank-lampard-everton-b2122286.html), now it appears as though the Tynesiders could be about to rekindle their admiration…

### The latest: ‘Fresh bid’

As per [Chronicle Live’s Lee Ryder](https://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/newcastle-united-transfers-state-play-24697738), Newcastle are believed to be ‘considering a fresh bid’ to sign the [four-cap](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/anthony-gordon/nationalmannschaft/spieler/503733/verein_id/9565) England Under 21 starlet.

It’s claimed that the St James’ Park club are readying an improved offer after a £35million proposal was rejected by Everton, although there could still be competition from Premier League rivals Tottenham Hotspur.

The report also states that as well as another swoop for Gordon – who was [described](https://www.pnefc.net/news/2021/february/alex-neil-on-exciting-anthony-gordon/) as an ‘exciting player’ with ‘huge potential’ by Sunderland manager Alex Neil – Newcastle are also understood to be ‘pondering’ another offer for Maddison.

### The verdict: Go all out

Although ownership group PIF have been reluctant to splash the cash thus far, going the extra mile to land a player of the 21-year-old’s class and future prospects would be a wholly worthwhile venture.

Last season, Gordon scored [four times and provided three assists](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/anthony-gordon/leistungsdaten/spieler/503733/plus/0?saison=2021) in 40 appearances across all competitions for what was a struggling Everton side, earning a 6.89 [Sofascore](https://www.sofascore.com/player/gordon-anthony/914902) rating whilst winning 4.9 duels, completing 1.1 successful dribbles and 1.0 key pass on average per game.

Predominantly operating as a left winger, the Scouse attacker – who shares similar stylistic traits to Jordan Ayew, Dwight McNeil and [Newcastle-linked](https://www.leeds-live.co.uk/sport/leeds-united/leeds-uniteds-definitive-jack-harrison-24677234) Jack Harrison ([Fbref](https://fbref.com/en/players/2bd83368/Anthony-Gordon)) – can operate on [either wing and in central areas](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/anthony-gordon/leistungsdaten/spieler/503733/plus/0?saison=ges) and would therefore be a superb addition to Howe’s ranks.
