# Newcastle: Magpies considering Duvan Zapata bid

**[Newcastle United](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/newcastle-united-news/) are reportedly considering a move for Atalanta striker Duvan Zapata, according to the [Northern Echo](https://www.thenorthernecho.co.uk/sport/20281162.newcastle-united-atalantas-duvan-zapata-new-target/).**

### The lowdown: Career so far

Signed from Argentinian outfit Estudiantes by Napoli in 2013, Zapata has enjoyed a long and fruitful spell in Serie A, directly contributing to [150 goals](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/duvan-zapata/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/73794/wettbewerb/IT1) in 257 outings whilst representing Udinese, Sampdoria and current club Atalanta.

### The latest: Magpies weighing up offer

As per the [Northern Echo](https://www.thenorthernecho.co.uk/sport/20281162.newcastle-united-atalantas-duvan-zapata-new-target/), Newcastle are believed to be ‘weighing up a fresh move’ to sign the [34-cap](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/duvan-zapata/nationalmannschaft/spieler/73794/verein_id/3816) star this summer.

It’s claimed that Eddie Howe is ‘still keen to sign a forward and a wide attacker’ during the ongoing window and Zapata could be an option for just £20million now, after being quoted an £8m loan fee plus £35m to make it permanent back in January.

After the drawn-out pursuit of Hugo Ekitike was finally brought to an [unsuccessful](https://www.90min.com/posts/newcastle-united-pull-out-of-hugo-ekitike-deal) conclusion, moving for Zapata would be a sensible decision from the St James’ Park hierarchy ahead of the 2022/23 campaign.
