# Newcastle: Fans have mixed views on transfer links with Emerson

**According to a report from Spanish media outlet [Sport](https://www.sport.es/es/noticias/barca/barca-no-repescara-emerson-prioridad-venderle-7938605) \[via [HITC](https://www.hitc.com/en-gb/2020/04/24/report-newcastle-and-three-premier-league-rivals-ask-about-18m-b/)\], Newcastle are among four Premier League clubs in the hunt to sign Barcelona-owned right-back Emerson, who is currently on loan at Real Betis.**

[Sport](https://www.sport.es/es/noticias/barca/barca-no-repescara-emerson-prioridad-venderle-7938605) claimed that the Magpies, along with West Ham, Everton and Tottenham, have contacted the Catalan giants about a possible move for the 21-year-old, with Barcelona reportedly willing to sell him if they receive an offer of €20m (£18m) or more. The Camp Nou club would need to pay Real Betis an additional €6m (£5.25m) to keep the player permanently due to their co-ownership. The transfer update was later shared on Twitter by [@NUFC360](https://twitter.com/NUFC360/status/1253809524986843144).

Emerson has [scored three goals and set up another five in 24 games](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/emerson/leistungsdaten/spieler/476344) on loan in Seville this season, although he has [yet to feature for Barcelona](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/emerson/leistungsdatenverein/spieler/476344) since his [transfer from Atletico Mineiro](https://www.marca.com/en/football/barcelona/2019/01/26/5c4c3f08468aeba21d8b45e3.html) last year. The right-back has won 2.1 tackles per game in La Liga this term and draws an average of 2.6 fouls per game from opponents (as per [WhoScored](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/328512/Show/Emerson)).

These Newcastle fans on Twitter had mixed views on the club’s reported links with the Brazilian defender, with some feeling he would be a shrewd signing and others rather unconvinced about the probability of such a transfer. Here is a flavour of the reaction from some of the St James’ Park faithful:
