Newcastle consider bid for “breathtaking” £20m ace

Newcastle are in the market to reinvest in new additions for the next chapter in their ambitions to become part of the European elite and are prioritising the development of their attacking threat.

The Magpies have already been linked to numerous high-profile Premier League forwards this summer, with Joao Pedro, Antoine Semenyo and Anthony Elanga all named as potential targets to improve the Newcastle forward line.

Newcastle already possess two of the most talked-about attacking talents in the top flight, as Alexander Isak and Anthony Gordon have taken their game to the next level under Eddie Howe, alongside Jacob Murphy and Harvey Barnes.

However, there is room for improvement on the right flank and in the depth of the front three rotation, especially with Champions League football confirmed for next season.

Although most links to players have been from inside the Premier League, the North East giants could now be thinking outside of the box with a reported interest in Celtic winger Nicolas Kuhn.

According to Sports Boom (via The Scotsman), Newcastle hold a strong interest in the talented German ace, but will need to compete with Aston Villa and Wolverhampton Wanderers for his signature.

All three Premier League clubs are reportedly keeping a close eye on Kuhn, having sent scouts to watch him on several occasions.

However, with manager Brendan Rodgers keen to keep hold of the winger this summer, any move is likely to demand a substantial bid.

The asking price is said to be upwards of £20m, which would land Celtic a huge profit on the £3m they paid to sign him from Rapid Vienna in January 2024.

Should Newcastle sign Nicolas Kuhn?

There is no doubt that Kuhn has proved to be a huge contributor and important influence for Celtic in the short time he has been with the Scottish giants.

Over 32 Scottish Premiership appearances last season, the 25-year-old – hailed as “breathtaking” by pundit Marvin Bartley –  scored 13 goals, registered nine assists and created 11 big chances, as well as averaging 1.6 key passes and 1.8 successful dribbles per game.

Kuhn has also demonstrated his sharp eye for goal in the Champions League too, netting a first-half brace in Celtic’s 3-1 home win over RB Leipzig and scoring against Bayern Munich at the Allianz Arena – proving he’s not just a domestic threat, but a player who steps up in the biggest games.

Signing a right winger will be a high priority for the Magpies, as Murphy is currently the only out-and-out right winger in the squad at present and at 30 year’s old does not represent the long-term solution for the position.

The Celtic star does possess some great experience and a consistent output in all competitions, which would add value to Newcastle’s attacking threat and the price tag is significantly lower than many of their Premier League targets.

However, it is unclear as to whether Kuhn would be open to a move to Tyneside as the report does suggest he is not seeking out a move at present, though a lucrative bid could prove to hard to refuse for Celtic if Newcastle do act upon their interest in the coming weeks.
