# Newcastle: No longer interested in Harry Wilson

**Newcastle United will not be signing Harry Wilson due to Liverpool’s stance on the Welshman, as reported by [Sky Sports](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11678/11773635/harry-wilson-newcastle-target-unlikely-to-leave-liverpool-on-loan).**

The Magpies had been attempting to sign the 22-year-old on loan, but [**Jurgen Klopp has stated**](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11678/11773635/harry-wilson-newcastle-target-unlikely-to-leave-liverpool-on-loan) he does not feel a loan would benefit Wilson’s development.

With Liverpool demanding [**£15m rising to £20m**](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11678/11773635/harry-wilson-newcastle-target-unlikely-to-leave-liverpool-on-loan), Newcastle have decided they will not be making a move to sign him.

Wilson started 40 games for Derby County last season, coming on as a substitute three times, scoring 16 goals and assisting four times, as per [**WhoScored**](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/333044/History/Harry-Wilson).

The Wales international made [**1.3 key passes**](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/333044/History/Harry-Wilson) and 0.6 crosses, which record signing Joelinton will likely have been able to take advantage of, with the Brazilian managing to get [2 shots](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/201755/Show/Joelinton) away on average last season while winning 2.3 aerial duels per game.

He has also impressed during pre-season, having coolly slotted away a chance during Liverpool’s 3-2 loss against Borussia Dortmund in the USA, as can be seen on [**Bundesliga’s highlight video**](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cyrCxdUj5M4).

Newcastle have also been linked with Nice’s Allan Saint-Maximin in reports, including one from [**The Chronicle**](https://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/steve-bruce-responds-transfer-talk-16672473).

The Frenchman, who is the same age as Wilson, started 34 games for Nice, scoring six goals and assisting three, as per [**WhoScored**](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/135891/Show/Allan-Saint-Maximin).

He may not have contributed to as many goals as Wilson, but Saint-Maximin did have an impact on games, completing [**1.7 key passes**](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/135891/Show/Allan-Saint-Maximin) and 4.2 dribbles per match, highlighting how direct he can be in his play.

Newcastle are right to drop their interest in Wilson, as long as they ensure they get the Saint-Maximin deal over the line.

The Frenchman has played at a higher level and has a greater impact on games in general, which should help get the most out of Joelinton in a Newcastle shirt to a greater degree than the Welshman would.
