# Newcastle: Alexander Isak ‘very close’ to injury return

**[Newcastle United](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/newcastle-united-news/) striker [Alexander Isak](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/tag/alexander-isak/) is now ‘very close’ to making a return from a lengthy injury layoff, reliable journalist Keith Downie has confirmed.**

### The Lowdown: Isak out for months

The Swede was an exciting summer addition by the Magpies, coming in as the big-money marquee signing who could help take Eddie Howe’s side up a gear.

Isak made a promising start to life at St James’ Park, [scoring twice](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/299254/Show/Alexander-Isak) in his first three appearances, but he hasn’t played since because of a [hamstring injury](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/alexander-isak/verletzungen/spieler/349066) suffered in September.

Thankfully, Newcastle have continued to excel without him but there is still no denying that his return is needed as a busy season ramps up after the World Cup break.

### The Latest: Closing in on return

Taking to [Twitter](https://twitter.com/SkySports_Keith/status/1608764838146363392?s=20&t=TWuHC-DaxAK_IzW3Lu9XmA), Downie said that Isak is now close to being back in the fold and should be available in the coming weeks:

> “Alexander Isak very close to a return, and should be involved in the next couple of weeks.”

### The Verdict: Huge boost for Newcastle

This is a major boost for Newcastle, with Isak a player of such immense promise, having been [hailed](https://www.rousingthekop.com/2021/06/19/exceptional-liverpool-linked-alexander-isak-impresses-gary-lineker/) as ‘exceptional’ by England legend Gary Lineker.

His return will suddenly give the Magpies another major goal threat, with a truly top-class centre forward missing whenever Callum Wilson is injured, which unfortunately still is the case far too often.

Isak is someone who could make the difference in Newcastle sealing a top-four finish and he could dovetail to devastating effect with the in-form Miguel Almiron.
