Newcastle have rejected a bid of over £110m from Liverpool for star striker Alexander Isak. After making an informal approach for the player last month, Liverpool have now sent a concrete offer to the Magpies but have failed in their first attempt.
Sky Sports has reported that Liverpool’s offer includes add-ons to push the bid past £110m, but the total offer did not reach £120m. Newcastle do not want to sell the player, and value Isak at £150m.
Both figures would dwarf Newcastle’s current record sale of Elliot Anderson, who they sold to Nottingham Forest for €41.20m. Isak is currently training alone at his former club Real Sociedad’s training facilities, as he was left out of the Newcastle squad that travelled to Singapore.
Newcastle have maintained that the player’s omission is due to his recovery from a “minor thigh injury”, though uncertainty surrounding his future is believed to play a factor as well. The 25-year-old informed Newcastle last month that he wants to explore his options in this transfer window after Liverpool previously made an informal enquiry for him.
Liverpool send first Isak bid

Newcastle are understood to have rejected Liverpool’s offer not only because it did not meet their evaluation, but also because they want to ensure a replacement is sorted. They have been linked to RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko as well as Brentford’s Yoane Wissa as they search for their next No.9.
They were previously in talks with Frankfurt for Hugo Ekitike, whom they hoped to pair with Alexander Isak as opposed to replace him, but Liverpool swooped quickly to hijack the deal. Ekitike is now a Liverpool player, but the Red’s remain interested in Isak having sold Luis Diaz to Bayern Munich.
Newcastle are still retaining hope of keeping Isak regardless of whether or not they sign another striker. As it stands, young striker Will Osula is the only reserve in that position.
