# Newcastle: Richarlison set to snub Magpies

**Newcastle United have been dealt a blow in their pursuit of Everton forward Richarlison.**

### The lowdown

Richarlison is said to be ‘[assessing his options](https://theathletic.com/3382149/2022/06/25/everton-transfer-window-importance-june-30/)‘, having [revealed at the end of May](https://www.teamtalk.com/everton/richarlison-tells-frank-lampard-plan-exit-rumours-speechless) that he had already held talks over his future with Frank Lampard.

As well as Newcastle, he has interest from two of the Premier League’s top four in [Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea](https://theathletic.com/3382149/2022/06/25/everton-transfer-window-importance-june-30/).

Everton are [apparently](https://theathletic.com/news/tottenham-richarlison-everton-transfer/C5FWc6TuL85v/) seeking more than £50million for the Brazilian, who was their [top scorer](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/teams/everton/top-scorers) last season.

### The latest

CBS Sports journalist Ben Jacobs shared ‘[some NUFC news](https://twitter.com/JacobsBen/status/1541413865925246976)‘ on Twitter on Monday afternoon.

He says that alongside the failure to sign Hugo Ekitike, Richarlison has been ‘[considered](https://twitter.com/JacobsBen/status/1541413868505038848)‘ but he’s been ‘[told](https://twitter.com/JacobsBen/status/1541413868505038848)‘ that the 25-year-old would have ‘[no interest](https://twitter.com/JacobsBen/status/1541413868505038848)‘ in the move. Instead, his preference is to move to London, where he has two aforementioned suitors.

Significantly, though, Newcastle are also pondering a move for his team-mate Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

### The verdict

Richarlison might well have been a popular addition among the Magpies faithful.

He’s a solid goalscorer, netting [53 in his 152 appearances for Everton](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/richarlison/leistungsdaten/spieler/378710) (more than one every three games), but his contribution extends beyond that – he’s revered for his application.

Sky Sports commentator [Martin Tyler](https://www.goodisonnews.com/2021/05/23/tyler-praises-richarlisons-work-rate-in-everton-loss-v-man-city/) said in 2021 that ‘no one works harder than Richarlison’, while former [Spurs defender Stephen Kelly](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/articles/cmje7300rrpo) has called him ‘tenacious’ and ‘feisty’.

Ultimately, Newcastle might not be in a position to compete with Spurs and Chelsea right now, but they’ll hope that changes in the coming years as they enact [a hugely ambitious plan](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11678/12428462/amanda-staveley-says-newcastles-long-term-ambition-is-to-win-premier-league-after-takeover) with the backing of their Saudi owners.
