# Newcastle: Steve Bruce hoping to be reunited with Jarrod Bowen

**Newcastle United are interested in signing Hull City winger Jarrod Bowen, according to [The Chronicle](https://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/newcastle-united-set-make-striker-16631849).**

Bowen [**signed for Hull**](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/jarrod-bowen/profil/spieler/314875) from Hereford United in 2014 while Steve Bruce was [**managing the Tigers**](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/steve-bruce/profil/trainer/447) and has gone on to become an integral part of their side.

However, that could be set to change, with Hull admitting there is interest in the 22-year-old, though [**a bid has not been made**](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/steve-bruce/profil/trainer/447) as of yet.

Bowen [**started 45 Championship matches**](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/322596/Show/Jarrod-Bowen) for Hull last season, coming on as a substitute once, scoring 22 goals and assisting four times.

The winger’s goal tally made him the Championship’s [**top-scoring**](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/championship/top-scorers) player who isn’t an out-and-out striker, while also putting him level with Jay Rodriguez who has moved to Burnley, Oli McBurnie who has been the subject of Premier League interest, as reported by [**BBC**](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/48990072), and Che Adams who has now joined Southampton.

While it is unlikely Bowen would reproduce these numbers in the Premier League given the better standard of opposition right away, it does show that he carries a goal threat – something Newcastle could use, having scored the [**fifth-fewest goals**](https://www.premierleague.com/stats/top/clubs/goals?se=210) in the Premier League last season.

He also made [**1 key pass**](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/322596/Show/Jarrod-Bowen) and 1.4 dribbles per game (as per WhoScored), which could help him create chances for new signing Joelinton.

In addition, Bowen doesn’t shirk his defensive responsibilities, having made [**1.4 tackles**](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/322596/Show/Jarrod-Bowen) and 1.1 interceptions last season, which will be important for Bruce, who built his Sheffield Wednesday side on defensive stability, having kept [**nine clean sheets**](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/steve-bruce/leistungsdatenDetail/trainer/447/verein_id/1035/datum_zu/2019-02-01/datum_ab/2019-07-16) and conceded just 17 goals during his 18 games in charge.

Going off his stats, this would be a superb signing for Newcastle if they can pull it off and it is a surprise there hasn’t been larger amounts of speculation about Bowen this window.

If a deal can be wrapped up for close to the £10 million mark it would be a great piece of business, especially as the player is still only 22-years-old and could potentially have some sell-on value.
