# Newcastle United: Club emerges as candidate in the race for Fredrik Andre Bjorkan

**According to recent reports, Newcastle United are in the race to sign Fredrik Andre Bjorkan in the January transfer window.**

The report by La Repubblica (via [Sport Witness](https://sportwitness.co.uk/leeds-united-presented-picture-sign-22-year-old-fullback-huge-step/)) claims that, alongside Leeds United, Norwich City, Sampdoria and Genoa, the Magpies are keen on a move for the [£1.08 million-rated](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/fredrik-andre-bjorkan/marktwertverlauf/spieler/364938) left-back, who currently plays his football in the Norwegian top flight for FK Bodo/Glimt.

Despite being just 22-years-old, Bjorkan has already racked up [100 career appearances](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/fredrik-andre-bjorkan/leistungsdatenverein/spieler/364938) for his club, in which he has [scored six goals and provided 10 assists](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/fredrik-andre-bjorkan/leistungsdatenverein/spieler/364938).

However, if the reports are to be believed, the Norway U21 international could well be on his way to England in the coming weeks.

### Transfer Tavern Take

While it is indeed an impressive feat reaching the milestone of 100 appearances for FK Bodo/Glimt at such a young age, the question must be asked as to whether Bjorkan would be ready to slot into the Newcastle United first team halfway through a Premier League season, having made the jump from a league – with the greatest respect to Norway – that is of a considerably lower standard to the English top flight.

So, while it would seem as if the Magpies may well face stiff competition in the race to land the 22-year-old, it could be argued that a move for the left-back would make more sense in the summer, affording him the opportunity of a full pre-season at the club.
