# Newcastle United: Fans encourage boycott as empty seats increase around St. James’ Park

The Magpies have long possessed one of the most loyal fanbases in the Premier League, with swathes of supporters filling out St. James’ Park every week through their top-flight history, but Mike Ashley’s controversial continued ownership has motivated supporters to stop going in protest.

DeAndre Yedlin and Ciaran Clark [grabbed the goals as Newcastle came back](https://www.google.com/search?sxsrf=ACYBGNQKsmdU7wLKYwdWX5e0fUfSsRclKw%3A1573558524042&source=hp&ei=_JjKXZ0Lh-FQqaWR-A0&q=newcastle+united&oq=newcastle+&gs_l=psy-ab.1.0.35i39i70i253j35i39j0i131i20i263l2j0j0i131l5.858.2175..3502...0.0..0.75.713.10......0....1..gws-wiz.......0i20i263.WP8J6bQ3C1E#sie=m;/g/11fls3cdts;2;/m/02_tc;dt;fp;1;;) from 1-0 down to seal victory at the weekend, with Allan Saint-Maximin [proving to be the star of the show](https://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/hes-dancing-between-challenges-moment-17236165) with his attacking prowess, but for many die-hard fans, that still doesn’t excuse what’s happening off the pitch.

The Chronicle’s Mark Douglas [issued an update on the situation](https://twitter.com/msidouglas/status/1193945084988993541?s=21) yesterday, with many supporters encouraging fellow Magpies to keep the boycott going, here’s what they had to say.

> Not coming back until the FCB has left. Saved enough for 2 holidays so far we only in November! Not putting money into his pocket any more!

> Way more than this are staying away.

> Clearly less than 40,000 there on Saturday, despite what “The Club” might say.

> I reckon between 35,000 and 40,000 there v Bournemouth.
