# Newcastle United: Fans praise Federico Fernandez after making Premier League team of the week

**It’s been a phenomenal month for Federico Fernandez, having a major hand in both of Newcastle United’s November victories with a [goal against West Ham](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/teams/newcastle-united/scores-fixtures/2019-11) – but now he’s followed that up with a gargantuan defensive effort against the Premier League champions to land himself a spot in [Premier League Team of the Week.](https://twitter.com/pajarofernandez/status/1201513637531267072?s=21)**

Fernandez has unquestionably been one of Newcastle’s heroes of the last month along with Ciaran Clark and Allan Saint-Maximin, having a major say in each of the Magpies’ best results – with his latest defensive display helping Steve Bruce’s side [nick an unlikely point](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/50526605) at home to Manchester City.

Indeed, during the game, the former Swansea ace made the most interceptions and clearances of any player on the pitch as per [WhoScored](https://www.whoscored.com/Matches/1376045/LiveStatistics/England-Premier-League-2019-2020-Newcastle-United-Manchester-City).

His Saturday efforts have also landed him a spot in Alan Shearer’s Premier League Team of the Week, mainly by having a major hand in helping his side stay resolute from wave after wave of City attack at St. James’ Park.

As a result, fans have rightfully praised the Spaniard for his efforts on Twitter – here’s what they had to say.
