# Newcastle United: Fans react to Longstaff comments on key figure’s future

**Newcastle United midfielder Sean Longstaff has drawn a reaction from the club’s fans after he made comments about Steve Bruce.**

The club are currently awaiting a [report from the World Trade Organisation](https://www.theguardian.com/football/2020/may/26/newcastle-takeover-in-serious-doubt-as-wto-rules-pirate-tv-channel-is-saudi) about Saudi Arabia Public Investment Fund (PIF) over a [£300m](https://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/saudis-clinch-300m-newcastle-buyout-6sgzg6rpd) takeover that could be in doubt about some involvement in alleged pirate television.

Both [Mauricio Pochettino](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11678/11980486/mauricio-pochettino-newcastles-prospective-new-owners-no-1-choice-to-take-charge) and [Rafael Benitez](https://www.telegraph.co.uk/football/2020/05/24/exclusive-rafael-benitez-wants-make-second-coming-newcastle/) have been linked with the managerial job at St. James Park which has left Bruce’s situation up for debate.

Discussing the matter via Podcast the [Epic Podcast](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ukaj0FW68qQ), Longstaff, who has previously been [linked](https://www.express.co.uk/sport/football/1250081/Man-Utd-Sean-Longstaff-transfer-news-Ole-Gunnar-Solskjaer-Newcastle) with a move to Manchester United, has claimed that Bruce deserves a chance as boss of the club.

Reacting to the news, various Newcastle fans were not to pleased with the player’s comments, perhaps understandably so given Bruce hasn’t been [popular](https://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/sob-tyne-mine-newcastle-fans-16598867) amongst the supporters since his appointment in the summer of 2019…

> That is the mindset of a mid table team. To be better we’ve got to get better players and manager. Harsh yes, unfair yes but that’s life in the fast lane.

Longstaff has featured [21 times](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/sean-longstaff/profil/spieler/346707) in the Premier League for Newcastle for this season, but his future has been very much discussed as has his brothers, who will see his [contract expire in the summer.](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/matthew-longstaff/profil/spieler/484387)

Matty, who plays defensive midfield, has featured in just [seven games this season](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/matthew-longstaff/profil/spieler/484387) under Bruce and no real reports of a new deal have emerged.
