# Newcastle United: Fans roast Christian Atsu’s chance to fill void left by Saint-Maximin

**Newcastle United ace Christian Atsu started for the first time in a while during the Magpies’ [1-0 defeat at Burnley](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I5D8YHzxNOA&feature=onebox), with himself, Andy Carroll and Dwight Gayle all [missing good chances](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I5D8YHzxNOA&feature=onebox) to potentially snatch a draw for Steve Bruce’s side – but now the Ghanaian winger wants to fill the void left by star Allan Saint-Maximin.**

The 22-year-old signed from [OGC Nice in the summer](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/49211377) to devastating effect, providing a hint of flair and excitement down the Magpies wing, but a [hamstring injury](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-7790735/Allan-Saint-Maximin-picked-96th-minute-hamstring-injury-clubs-fastest-sprint-ever.html) has ruled him out until after the New Year.

Now, previously out of favour man Atsu has a chance to play his way into a future starting place and try to fill the shoes of Saint-Maximin and his quotes in [the Chronicle](https://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/christian-atsu-makes-honest-admission-17422992) suggest he’s looking forward to a run in the team – but supporters aren’t too optimistic.

The former Chelsea ace has a big task to try and replicate the form of his French teammate, but the Ghana international seems happy to try and grasp the opportunity.

Here’s how supporters dismissed his chances on social media.

> He’s having a laugh isn’t he?? He was absolutely dreadful! Let’s hope Almiron is back sat!
