# Newcastle United: Fans slam reported club stance on Dwight Gayle sale

**According to a report [from the Chronicle \[19:11\]](https://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/newcastle-united-transfers-giroud-babel-17522594), Newcastle United are not convinced that any Championship clubs can meet the [£12-15 million](https://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/newcastle-united-transfers-giroud-babel-17522594) price tag for outcast striker Dwight Gayle’s signature – with the idea of selling him on the cheap to free up space in the squad being [‘firmly ruled out’.](https://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/newcastle-united-transfers-giroud-babel-17522594)**

The Englishman, who has started just [one Premier League game](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/118326/History/Dwight-Gayle) for the Magpies all season, making the vast majority of his appearances [as a substitute,](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/118326/History/Dwight-Gayle) falling behind the likes of Joelinton, Allan Saint-Maximin, Andy Carroll and Miguel Almiron in the pecking order despite their collective lack of goals.

Gayle was sent out on a season-long loan last campaign to England’s second tier where he shone for West Bromwich Albion, finding the net [24 times in 40 appearances](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/118326/History/Dwight-Gayle) for the Baggies, but his prolific form in the Championship may not change the fact clubs in that division still won’t be able to afford his lofty price tag.

As a result, Newcastle supporters have slammed the club’s stubborn stance on his reported fee, insisting that they ship off the outcast for a potentially cheaper price – here’s what they had to say on Twitter.

> Such insufferable levels of idiocy.\
> Why keep him on the books until his contract runs out, letting him hold back the over level of the team when he clearly can’t cut it at this level. Just drop the price a few mil and move him on.

> Keeping Gayle and not using him since being promoted whilst we could get 10mil for him sums up how we’re run.

> What’s the point in having him? We may as well take what we can get. Bruce doesn’t play him, he has value in him atm… Sitting on the bench until the summer that value diminishes every passing game he doesn’t play.

> Ashley…expects other clubs to give him players on the cheap but would rather lose money than have other clubs get a bargain. Joke of an owner.

> And in another 6months his contract goes down further as does his value. Just cut your losses!

> Gayle’s losing value all the time. Barely touched a ball. £15m is getting more and more unlikely.

> Let him go cheaper now but if the team wins promotion this season or next they have to pay more
