# Newcastle United: Fans want Jonjo Shelvey England call-up after Manchester City heroics

**After Newcastle United pulled off one of their results of the season on Saturday afternoon at St. James’ Park, drawing [2-2 with Premier League champions Manchester City](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3f2isGjUr9k), one player in particular has been taking all the plaudits – with fans from across the division insisting that he deserves another shot for England.**

Raheem Sterling originally fired the visitors into an expected lead, feeding off David Silva’s acute pass to curl a brilliant shot past Martin Dubravka before Jetro Willems fired a [stunning equaliser moments later](https://www.caughtoffside.com/2019/11/30/video-willems-cancels-out-sterling-opener-as-pair-swap-top-finishes-in-newcastle-man-city-clash/).

It took until the last ten minutes before we’d see another goal, with Kevin De Bruyne scoring one of the strikes of the season with a [brilliant half volley](https://www.caughtoffside.com/2019/11/30/video-kevin-de-bruyne-scores-stunning-goal-for-man-city-vs-newcastle-utd/) from 25 yards out.

Many spectators may have thought that moment of magic would win City the match, however, [polarising Toon midfield star](https://www.thenorthernecho.co.uk/sport/15439183.kick-off-newcastle-united-midfielder-jonjo-shelvey-divides-opinion-as-readily-as-he-splits-defences/) Jonjo Shelvey had his own statement to make – accurately smashing an effort beyond the outstretched Ederson moments from full-time to [equalise and secure a point](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/50526605) for the Magpies.

As a result, due to his phenomenal impact and performance, Premier League supporters have been hinting at the prospect of an England call-up – here’s what they had to say on Twitter.
