# Newcastle United: Football fans discuss Sean Longstaff’s reported price tag

**Responding to a [tweet by Shxlvey,](https://twitter.com/manlikemeyler2i/status/1212736439198326784?s=21) football fans were in full discussion over Newcastle United potentially selling Sean Longstaff – with a report from [ESPN](https://www.espn.co.uk/football/soccer-transfers/story/4025380/manchester-united-eye-emre-can-sean-longstaff-to-ease-injury-crisis-sources) claiming that Manchester United could revamp their willingness to snatch the midfielder for a good price.**

Longstaff, who amassed an [80.9% pass success rate](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/342811/History/Sean-Longstaff) in nine overall Premier League appearances last campaign, was also on the Red Devils’ radar [last summer](https://www.shieldsgazette.com/sport/football/manchester-united-fail-ps35m-offer-sean-longstaff-489041) when they were in the search of more attacking midfielders – and now the club could reignite their interest in bringing Longstaff to Old Trafford.

Compared to current midfield favourites Fred and Scott McTominay ([injured](https://www.thesun.co.uk/sport/football/10647053/man-utd-scott-mctominay-knee-injury-eight-weeks/)), it appears the Englishman has a somewhat lesser presence in the centre of the park – with Fred, in particular, averaging more successful passes this season – meanwhile McTominay has managed [more goals.](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/336915/Show/Scott-McTominay)

For Newcastle, Jonjo Shelvey and Isaac Hayden have featured far more often this season and Chronicle journalist Andrew Musgrove recently [noted](https://twitter.com/ADMusgrove/status/1212737788124286977) how he was playing at ‘nowhere near’ the level he was last season.

As a result, football supporters have lauded the potentially amazing business if Newcastle manage to pull off the sale – taking to Twitter with their opposing verdicts.

Here’s what they had to say.

> Mike Ashley deserves a statue if he pulls this off.

> He looked unbelievable under Rafa. He looks awful under Bruce. Talent is definitely there, but we need someone to coach him
