# Newcastle United eye January move for “outstanding” Super Lig star

[Newcastle United could look to strengthen their squad when the January transfer window](https://newcastleunitednews.org/blog/newcastle-united-transfer-news-wallace/) opens, with Matthias Jaissle’s side continuing to assess potential additions who can improve their options for the second half of the season.

The Magpies have already been linked with a number of players ahead of the winter window, and one midfielder they reportedly tried to sign during the summer could be back on their radar.

## **Newcastle United Target Gabriel Sara**

[According to Turkish outlet Webaslan](https://www.webaslan.com/futbol/gabriel-sara-icin-ingilizler-geliyor-SXGLQ23771SXQ?sira=5), [Newcastle United](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/newcastle-united-transfer-rumours/) remain interested in signing Galatasaray midfielder Gabriel Sara, with the Brazilian potentially the subject of a fresh approach in January.

The Magpies were reportedly keen to bring the 27-year-old to St James’ Park during the summer transfer window, but were unable to complete a deal. They are now expected to revisit their interest when the market reopens, with Everton also emerging as potential rivals for his signature.

Sara – [once described as “outstanding” by former boss David Wagner](https://www.pinkun.com/sport/norwich-city/24125364.david-wagner-praises-norwich-city-midfielder-gabriel-sara/) – has impressed since joining Galatasaray from Norwich City in 2024, establishing himself as an important part of the Turkish side’s midfield. He has also made an encouraging start to the current campaign, recording two goals and two assists in his opening appearances.

His previous experience in English football could make a return to the country an attractive prospect, while his technical ability and attacking contributions would offer Newcastle another option in the middle of the pitch.

However, the Magpies may face competition from Everton, who are also reportedly exploring a potential move for the midfielder ahead of January.

Galatasaray are unlikely to be keen to lose an important player midway through the season, meaning Newcastle could need to make a significant offer to convince the Turkish club to negotiate.

With the winter window approaching, Sara is one to watch as Newcastle consider their midfield options. Whether the club can turn their reported interest into a formal bid remains to be seen.
