# Newcastle United: Magpies fans react to Federico Fernandez’s tweet

**Many Newcastle fans reacted to Federico Fernandez’s Twitter post celebrating his one-year contract extension with the Magpies.**

It was announced earlier this week that the board have decided to extend Fernandez’s stay at St. James’ Park until the end of next season.

The 31-year-old has scored 2 goals and provided 2 assists in 47 appearances across all competitions for the Tyneside club since moving to Newcastle from Swansea City in the 2018 summer transfer window ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/federico-fernandez/profil/spieler/85475)).

Indeed, he played the full 90 minutes in the Black and Whites’ 1-0 victory over Premier League rivals Southampton last weekend. The defensive stalwart made 6 clearances, blocked 1 shot and completed 51 out of 62 passes at a high pass accuracy rating of 82% ([SofaScore](https://www.sofascore.com/player/federico-fernandez/38393)).
