# Newcastle United submit £34.2 million offer for Ligue 1 starlet who is ‘so good at football’

[Newcastle United](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/newcastle-united-transfer-rumours/) have endured a turbulent summer.

The Magpies have lost captain Bruno Guimarães to Arsenal and have seen Sandro Tonali depart for Tottenham Hotspur. In a surprise few saw coming, Eddie Howe also stepped down, while Anthony Gordon completed a move to Barcelona earlier in the window.

The scale of those departures has left Newcastle with money to reinvest, though, and they now appear ready to put a sizeable chunk of it towards another attacking addition.

## **Newcastle Submit Bid for Matias Fernandez-Pardo**

Newcastle United have submitted a €45million (£34.2m) offer, including bonuses, for Lille forward Matias Fernandez-Pardo, [according to *L’Équipe*](https://www.lequipe.fr/Football/Actualites/Mercato-newcastle-entre-dans-la-danse-pour-le-lillois-matias-fernandez-pardo/1713237).

The 21-year-old has emerged as a wanted player across Europe, with [Newcastle now making their interest concrete](https://newcastleunitednews.org/blog/newcastle-united-transfer-news-matias-fernandez-pardo/) by putting an offer on the table.

Fernandez-Pardo remains under contract with Lille until 2029, but reports suggest the forward is no longer fully committed to continuing his career in northern France despite the club’s place in the Champions League.

The situation has reportedly become increasingly delicate, with the youngster said to have occasionally arrived late for training. Lille president Olivier Létang is nevertheless reluctant to sanction a sale, particularly without first securing a replacement.

Newcastle are not alone in their pursuit. Atletico Madrid and RB Leipzig are also understood to be interested in the Belgium-born forward, meaning the Magpies could face competition if Lille decide to entertain offers.

Ligue 1’s official media channels have previously [hailed Fernandez-Pardo as “so good at football”](https://www.facebook.com/watch/?v=1355728669231869), and Newcastle now appear willing to back that assessment with a substantial bid.
