# Newcastle United: Ryder confirms NUFC yet to offer Gayle a new deal

**The Chronicle’s chief Newcastle United correspondent [Lee Ryder has confirmed](https://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/dwight-gayle-contract-future-19449035) that the North East club are yet to enter into discussions over a contract extension with Dwight Gayle, whose current deal with the Toon is set to expire at the [end of the 2020/21 campaign](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/dwight-gayle/profil/spieler/196522).**

This comes after the 30-year-old centre-forward scored Newcastle’s winning goal in the [82nd minute](https://www.whoscored.com/Matches/1485290/Live/England-Premier-League-2020-2021-Newcastle-United-West-Bromwich-Albion) of Saturday’s Premier League clash with West Bromwich Albion.

### **Is the Newcastle United forward worth a new deal?**

In his report confirming that the Toon have not made the [£7.2m-rated](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/dwight-gayle/marktwertverlauf/spieler/196522) man a new contract offer yet, Ryder also stated that the form Gayle has shown since moving to St. James’ Park ‘suggests he’s worth a new deal.’

Since joining Newcastle from Crystal Palace for [£10.8m in the summer of 2016](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/dwight-gayle/transfers/spieler/196522), Gayle has scored [58 goals in 135 games](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/dwight-gayle/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/196522). He scored [34 of those goals in his 94 appearances](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/dwight-gayle/leistungsdatenverein/spieler/196522) for the Toon, while [24 of his goals in that time came during the 2018/19 season](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/dwight-gayle/leistungsdatenverein/spieler/196522) when he was [on loan](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/dwight-gayle/transfers/spieler/196522) at West Brom. [Per Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/newcastle-united/topTorschuetzen/verein/762), Gayle has scored more goals for Newcastle than any other player in the North East club’s current squad.

### **Attracting interest from elsewhere**

It would appear as though Gayle wouldn’t be short of options if his club opts not to offer him a new deal, as Ryder has also claimed that he is ‘certain to attract interest in the next two windows,’ with ‘clubs around Europe’ keeping tabs on the 30-year-old, while the Toon’s Premier League rivals Fulham have got a ‘long-term interest’ in the centre-forward.

Given that he will be [free to discuss a future free transfer](https://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/dwight-gayle-contract-future-19449035) with one of those interested parties upon the turn of the year, perhaps it would be wise of the Toon to begin discussions with Gayle over a new deal quickly if they want him to stay at St. James’ Park and given that Newcastle boss Steve Bruce was [full of praise](https://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/dwight-gayle-contract-future-19449035) for the forward after Saturday’s game, maybe that is an indication of his interest in keeping the 30-year-old.

As a result, perhaps it’s understandable why Ryder warned Toon fans of ‘[the danger](https://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/dwight-gayle-contract-future-19449035)‘ their club may face in keeping hold of the striker, should he become able to enter into discussions with other clubs next month.

In other news, [Luke Edwards recently issued an exciting Toon takeover update](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/newcastle-united-news/newcastle-united-luke-edwards-gives-exciting-takeover-update-involving-ksa/).
