Newcastle United reportedly want to join the race to sign Borussia Dortmund and England central midfielder Jude Bellingham in the summer.

The Lowdown: Set to leave...

Bellingham is reportedly set to leave Dortmund this summer, and there is sure to be a long queue for his signature.

He has scored ten goals and made four assists from the middle of the park so far this season (standout performer for England at the FIFA World Cup in Qatar, all at the age of just 19.

The Latest: Newcastle interest

As per German news outlet Sport BILD (via Sport Witness), Newcastle are now 'trying to get involved' in the race for Bellingham this summer, with mega clubs Chelsea, Liverpool, PSG and Real Madrid also in the mix.

Bellingham wants to see if one of his suitors, Liverpool, can qualify for the UEFA Champions League for next season, while the St. James' Park outfit are in a strong position in that respect.

The Verdict: Statement signing

Bellingham would certainly be a real statement signing if the Magpies could pull it off.

Hailed as a 'monster' by former footballer Curtis Woodhouse after his exploits in the World Cup, and likened to a 'swiss army knife' by BT Sport pundit Owen Hargreaves after impressing in the Champions League, he has already shown that he can perform on the big stage, and so should be at home in the Premier League.

After losing Jonjo Shelvey to Nottingham Forest, Eddie Howe's side will be in need of a new midfielder in the summer, and Bellingham would be perfect, ranking highly in several midfielder metrics according to FBRef, but they will likely need to ensure Champions League qualification first.
