Newcastle United journalist Dominic Scurr has shared a potential injury boost involving Bruno Guimaraes.

The Lowdown: Back soon?

It has been reported that the St James' Park club are 'hopeful' that the Brazilian could return 'soon' after his latest injury lay-off.

The midfielder has missed their last three games in the Premier League with a hamstring problem, in which time the Magpies have only managed to pick up two points (Transfermarkt).

The Latest: Brazil call-up

Taking to Twitter, Scurr has shared that Bruno has now been called up by the Brazil national team for their friendly against Ghana later this month, after missing the last three matches for Newcastle through injury.

The journalist tweeted: "Bruno Guimaraes has been called-up to the Brazil squad for the match against Ghana later this month. The midfielder has missed #NUFC's last three matches due to a hamstring injury."

The Verdict: Big boost

It would certainly be a big boost for the Tynesiders if Bruno were to return from injury soon, and judging by his latest call-up for Brazil, it seems as if he is not far off.

The 24-year-old currently ranks as the Magpies' sixth-best performer in the top flight so far this term, and has recorded more tackles and through balls per match than any of his team-mates (WhoScored), highlighting the job he does in the middle of the park.

If Eddie Howe can have him back in the squad to face the Newcastle manager's former club Bournemouth in the Premier League next weekend, then it could well increase their chances of getting all three points for the first time since their opening day triumph over Nottingham Forest.
