Newcastle: Pete O’Rourke makes Callum Wilson claim

Journalist Pete O’Rourke has stated that Newcastle forward Callum Wilson is hoping to return to action in April, as per GiveMeSport.
The Lowdown: Wilson out injured since December
The 30-year-old has been sidelined since December with a calf issue, leaving Eddie Howe with limited options in attack.

That resulted in the Magpies signing Chris Wood from Burnley during the January transfer window, and the New Zealand international has played every minute of Premier League action since moving to St James’ Park.
Newcastle have impressed in 2022 without Wilson, picking up 20 points from a possible 30 to ease worries over possible relegation to the Championship.
The Latest: O’Rourke’s comments on Wilson
Talking to GiveMeSport, O’Rourke had this to say on Wilson, claiming that he knows the striker is eyeing a return to the fold in the middle of next month:
“It looks like he’s on his way back after his injury that he picked up in December, and I know that he’s targeting a return to action in mid-April. So, to get Callum Wilson back fit and firing, I think will ease any lingering worries that Newcastle have about being dragged back into this relegation fight.”
The Verdict: Good news
This insight from O’Rourke comes as more good news on the injury front for Newcastle since the start of the international break, with Luke Edwards reporting that Kieran Trippier is also expected to return before the end of next month.
Hopefully by the time Wilson returns to action, the Magpies will stretch their nine-point advantage over the bottom three and can enjoy a stress-free run-in to the campaign.
His return will be welcome news for Howe, who will then need to decide what to do with the ex-Bournemouth forward and January signing Wood.
The Newcastle manager has used a front two during his time in charge of the club, so that could be an option once again, or else he could decide to ease the 30-year-old back into action with a number of cameo appearances from the bench.
