Newcastle United have reportedly 'also discussed' potential late moves for both Christian Pulisic and Conor Gallagher.

The Lowdown: Ashby disappointment

It looked as if the St. James' Park outfit were all set to sign right-back Harrison Ashby from West Ham United this afternoon.

However, that deal is now off, according to Sky Sports journalist and North East reporter Keith Downie.

It begs the question now whether any new players will be coming through the doors on Tyneside today, with only a few hours left until the transfer window closes.

The Latest: Chelsea duo 'discussed'

Taking to Twitter, Sky Sports reporter Pete Graves has revealed that possible loan deals have 'also (been) discussed', with Pulisic and Gallagher the two names who have been 'mentioned'.

Youri Tielemans is also a player that the Magpies 'like', although any deal for him looks highly unlikely given that he is playing for Leicester City against Manchester United in the Premier League tonight.

The Verdict: Unlikely

With so little time remaining, it just seems very unlikely that Eddie Howe's team would be able to sign Pulisic or Gallagher.

At 23 and 22 years of age respectively, they are an exciting duo who would certainly add more quality to the squad, with Pulisic already being capped 51 times for the USA national team, scoring an impressive 21 goals (Transfermarkt).

Gallagher meanwhile broke into the England squad under Gareth Southgate after an impressive loan spell at Crystal Palace last season, winning their Player of the Season (POTS) award.

However, time is certainly ticking to get any kind of deal done before the deadline.
