Newcastle United: Magpies still eyeing Gordon and Isak

Newcastle United: Magpies still eyeing Gordon and Isak -Newcastle United News

Newcastle United are reportedly still eyeing a potential double swoop for Alexander Isak and Anthony Gordon.

The Lowdown: Cooled down?

The St. James’ Park outfit were linked with moves for both Isak and Gordon earlier on in the window, but interest seemed to have cooled down, with Isak in particular seen as too expensive of an option.

They are looking to strengthen their attacking options before the window closes though, and so a new striker and winger could be added before the deadline, with attention seemingly now turning all the way back to their original targets for those positions.

The Latest: Still interested

Writing in his latest piece for The Chronicle, journalist Lee Ryder has revealed that Gordon is a player that is still on the North East club’s ‘wish-list’ alongside Leicester City’s James Maddison.

Isak is also ‘still under consideration’ if the price is right, but Real Sociedad still want at least ‘£50m’ if they are to sell the striker.

The Verdict: Get both in!

If deals can be done for both Gordon and Isak, then the Tynesiders need to get them both in.

Dubbed ‘fearless‘ by Magpies legend Alan Shearer, Gordon was such a key player for the Toffees in their battle to avoid relegation from the Premier League, scoring four goals and making two assists in 35 games last season while ranking highly among his teammates in terms of average shots, key passes and dribbles per match (WhoScored).

Should Newcastle start Isak?

Isak has been courted by the likes of Liverpool and Arsenal in the past, and although last season was not very fruitful for him, the Sweden international averaged a goal every two games in La Liga the campaign before (Transfermarkt).

Nonetheless, both players would give Eddie Howe and his team an exciting new dimension in attack and they are both young enough to develop into something even more valuable than what the Toon would need to pay right now.
