Newcastle United are reportedly 'admirers' of Ajax and Ghana star Mohammed Kudus ahead of a potential move in the January transfer window.

The Lowdown: World Cup star

Kudus was a standout player for Ghana at the FIFA World Cup in Qatar, with Ajax team-mate Calvin Bassey labelling him as a 'star boy on fire'.

With two goals in the group stages, Kudus was his country's standout performer, while nobody else in the squad could match his average of 2.7 shots or 3.3 dribbles per game (WhoScored).

With ten goals and two assists for Ajax before the break (Transfermarkt), he took his club form into the tournament, and is sure to be a sought-after player come January.

The Latest: Newcastle 'admirers'

As per The Daily Mail, the St. James' Park outfit are among a number of 'admirers' of Kudus, with fellow Premier League rivals Everton and Liverpool set to battle it out for his signature.

The 22-year-old 'could try and force a move' away from Ajax in January, and the North East club will be waiting in the wings.

The Verdict: Get it done

If the Tynesiders want to maintain their push for a UEFA Champions League place come the end of the season, then they could do with signing some extra firepower in the January market.

Kudus' stats speak for themselves, and at just 22, he still has a very high ceiling.

Capable of playing as a striker as well as anywhere in the middle of the park, his extra versatility would be of much use to Eddie Howe, and so this looks to be a no-brainer for the Magpies.
