Transfer expert Dean Jones says that Newcastle United are 'ready to fast track' a 'really intriguing' move for Everton forward Anthony Gordon.

The Lowdown: Interest revived

It was recently reported that the North East club are ‘ready to revive’ their interest in Gordon, and are ‘considering a fresh move’ for him before the transfer window closes.

They were reportedly interested in signing him in the summer, and even had a bid rejected for the Englishman, but now they could return for his signature, with the Toffees struggling in the relegation zone.

The Latest: 'Ready to fast track' move

Speaking to GiveMeSport, Jones says that the St. James' Park outfit are 'ready to fast track' their move for Gordon, in what would be a 'really intriguing' deal:

“Newcastle are ready to fast track their move for Anthony Gordon this month.

“They don’t know that Everton will sell now but they do know that the club aren’t in a good state financially, so feel it might be worth a try. It will be really intriguing to see if they can pull it off.”

The Verdict: Help needed

Even though the Tynesiders have done well to keep six clean sheets in a row in the Premier League, they have only managed to score one goal in their last four league games.

After letting Chris Wood go to Nottingham Forest on loan, they could do with some more forward options, and Gordon could help that.

Incidentally, he has recorded the highest top speed of all players in the top flight so far this term, while Toon legend Alan Shearer has lauded his ‘fearless attitude‘ when he drives with the ball.

Gordon does need to work on his end product, with just three goals and no assists in 16 Premier League matches so far this campaign, but the 21-year-old clearly has a lot of potential, and under a different coach in Eddie Howe, he could go to the next level, like Miguel Almiron's impressive turn in form.
