Steve Howey reckons that Josh King would be an ideal signing for Newcastle.
Howey’s former side currently have four strikers at their disposal, but Andy Carroll, Joelinton and Dwight Gayle scored just six Premier League goals between them last term, half of what Callum Wilson managed on his own.
Should Newcastle sign Giroud?
Newcastle ended the campaign in excellent goalscoring form – averaging two-per-game in their final nine league fixtures, but still failed to find the net in 30 percent of their matches.
Joe Willock’s end-of-season blitz proved vital, but the likes of Miguel Almiron, Ryan Fraser and Allan Saint-Maximin were unable to chip in with substantial numbers.
With that in mind, Howey believes that King, who’s available on a free transfer following his release from Everton, would be a shrewd piece of business.
“Bringing someone in that has scored goals in the Premier League, and on a free, could be ideal for Newcastle,” Howey exclusively told The Transfer Tavern.
