Newcastle United defender Fabian Schar has provided a hint that he could be getting back to fitness from the injury scare he suffered in the Magpies’ 3-1 win against Burnley on Saturday night.
The centre-back offered hope that he could be set to return to fitness, posting on his official Twitter account to show that he has joined up with Switzerland ahead of their upcoming matches against Croatia tonight and then the two Nations League encounters against Spain and Germany.

The defender was brought off in the second half of Newcastle’s win against Burnley after he suffered a knock earlier in the contest. Steve Bruce had revealed after the game that the Magpies would need to wait on a scan to assess the damage to the 28-year-old.
Schar had only just been making his comeback following a return from surgery on a shoulder injury over the summer, and the Switzerland international delivered a strong performance against Burnley’s two big physical strikers in Ashley Barnes and Chris Wood, restricting the duo to only three shots in total and achieving a 79% passing accuracy rate, via Sofascore.
Schar is a crucial player for Newcastle to have fit and ready for when the Premier League campaign resumes after international duty, appearing in 46 league games over the past two full seasons. The Magpies have already suffered injuries to the likes of Paul Dummett, Ciaran Clark and Jamaal Lascelles so far this campaign, so they can ill afford to lose any other defensive options.
The Switzerland international proved his value to the side last season averaging 3.3 clearances and 2.1 interceptions per game (via Sofascore). With the Magpies having not brought in any defensive cover as of yet and allowed Florian Lejeune to leave on loan, they need Schar available and there are signs he could well be based on him training with his national team squad.
