Newcastle United: Ben Foster ‘turned down an approach’ from Magpies

Free agent Ben Foster has reportedly ‘turned down an approach’ from Newcastle United.
The Lowdown: Karius to sign
It has been reported that former Liverpool goalkeeper Loris Karius is now set to sign for the St James’ Park outfit as a free agent, after Karl Darlow picked up an injury in training.
With Martin Dubravka being allowed to go on loan to Manchester United, Eddie Howe wanted to bring in another goalkeeper as cover following Darlow’s latest setback.
The Latest: Foster approach
Taking to Twitter, journalist Pete O’Rourke has revealed that former Watford shot-stopper Foster ‘turned down an approach from Newcastle’ before they decided to sign Karius:
“Former Watford goalkeeper Ben Foster turned down an approach from Newcastle to join on a short-term deal before they turned to ex-Liverpool goalkeeper Loris Karius.”
The Verdict: Interesting
It is certainly interesting to hear of the North East club’s interest in Foster, who incidentally holds the record for the most saves ever made by a goalkeeper in the Premier League.
Should Newcastle sign Karius?
Yes

No

He has plenty of experience in the top flight, but being 10 years older than Karius at 39, who also has Premier League experience, maybe going for the latter in the end will turn out to be the right call.
Nonetheless, Foster could be a player that they explore later down the line if another one of their goalkeepers were to get injured for a sustained period of time.
