Newcastle United: Graham Potter lauds Andy Carroll, Jonjo Shelvey, Callum Wilson and Allan Saint-Maximin ahead of Brighton clash - Newcastle United News

Graham Potter has lauded four Newcastle United players ahead of the Premier League game between the Tyneside club and Brighton and Hove Albion tomorrow afternoon.

Speaking in a pre-match press conference ahead of the match (via NUFC 360), the Seagulls boss claimed:

“Impressive, the business they have done. They have players like Carroll and Shelvey, and have added quality.

“Everyone knows what Carroll brings to the team physically and aerially. Him and Wilson will be a strong partnership. They have Saint-Maximin too.”

Indeed, each player mentioned by Potter has their own merit at St James’ Park. In the 2019/20 Premier League season, Carroll won six duels per match and proved his usefulness defensively by averaging 1.3 clearances per game, according to Sofascore.

Shelvey was also an influential player for Newcastle last term, scoring six goals and making a further two assists in 26 appearances, while also managing to create seven big chances and average a relatively impressive 1.8 key passes per game, as per Sofascore.

Wilson has already shown what he can bring to the side by scoring on his debut for the Magpies in their 2-0 away win at London Stadium against David Moyes’ West Ham United in their first match of the 2020/21 campaign.

Saint-Maximin scored three goals and provided a further four assists in 26 matches in England’s top flight last term, while also averaging 1.8 shots, 1.3 key passes and 4.7 dribbles per game (per Whoscored).

Let us start with the 10th most expensive, how much was Jonjo Shelvey?

Indeed, all four players may well have a chance of starting against Brighton and, if Potter’s latest comments are anything to go by, then they could all have a positive impact for the Magpies as Steve Bruce looks to secure another three points to maintain their 100% record in the league.
