Newcastle United reportedly admire Bayer Leverkusen's Florian Wirtz and Leicester City's Harvey Barnes ahead of potential moves this summer.

The Lowdown: Toothless attack

Newcastle's attack has been rather toothless over the last few games, as they have only managed to score a mere six goals in total in their last nine matches over all competitions.

The lack of firepower has cost them the Carabao Cup to Manchester United, and seen them slip outside of the UEFA Champions League qualifying places.

The Latest: Wirtz and Barnes admired

As per The Daily Mail, Newcastle 'admire' Wirtz and Barnes, and also want to sign another central defender to compete with Fabian Schar.

They have also entered the race for Chelsea's Mason Mount, in what could be a busy transfer window in the North East.

The Verdict: Get them both in?

Wirtz and Barnes would certainly help in terms of adding a more attacking threat to the Tynesiders' forward line.

Hailed as 'unbelievable' by Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp, Barnes already has the Premier League experience, and has 30 goals and 25 assists over six seasons in the division, including nine goal contributions so far this term (Transfermarkt).

At just 19 years of age, Wirtz is one of the most exciting talents in world football, and has already played 88 times for Leverkusen, scoring 21 goals and making a further 27 assists in all competitions (Transfermarkt).

He has even been likened to the great Lionel Messi by Xavi, and could be a real gem at St. James' Park.

Nonetheless, getting both in would send a big statement out to the rest of the top flight.
